Worship at St. Luke’s
We gather as a community to worship God on Sunday and during the week, using the traditions, liturgies, and sacraments of the Episcopal Church.
Children are always welcome in church, as we believe their presence (and noises) enlivens our worship. Is it your first time visiting? Learn more about what to expect.
SUNDAY Morning Worship
We gather on Sunday to proclaim Christ’s Resurrection, hear Holy Scripture, and celebrate the Eucharist. At St. Luke’s, we offer two Sunday services:
8:00 a.m. Eucharist celebrated with instrumental music, chant and traditional Elizabethan English from the Book of Common Prayer.
10:30 a.m. Eucharist celebrated with music, chant and contemporary English from the Book of Common Prayer
Wednesday Evening Worship
St. Luke's offers a hour-long Candlelight Centering Prayer service each Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
We begin with the Lord’s Prayer and twenty minutes of silence, followed by group Lectio Divina on an appointed Scripture reading. We conclude with another twenty minutes of silence, the Song of Simeon and the sharing of the Peace.
Special SERVICES
Weddings
The sacrament of Christian marriage is a solemn covenant between one man and one woman made in the presence of God and the gathered Christian community. In the Episcopal Church, at least one member of the couple being married is required to be a baptized and practicing Christian. All couples are required to participate in pre-marital counseling sessions and a liturgy rehearsal with one of our parish clergy, and all weddings at St. Luke’s must use the liturgy outlined in the Book of Common Prayer.
For more information about celebrating your marriage at St. Luke’s, please contact us.
Funerals
Rites of Burial and Graveside Committals are solemn rites in which the dead are prayed for by the Christian community and commended to the care of Christ. The Book of Common Prayer offers services for Christian and non-Christian burials, but all Prayerbook services are centered on the salvation offered through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. If you would like to plan a Rite of Burial at St. Luke’s or request a priest for a graveside committal, please contact us.
Baptisms
Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body the Church.
All baptized persons are expected to live out their commitment by regularly worshiping at St. Luke’s. On occasion, a person may be baptized at St. Luke’s and then transferred to another parish nearer to their home. Adult baptismal candidates must participate in a 2-3 month catechumenate process prior to baptism. Family’s requesting the baptism of an infant or child are required to be regular worshippers and members of St. Luke’s for a minimum of three months.
All baptisms at St. Luke’s are held on Sunday mornings. By tradition, four feasts are especially appropriate for Holy Baptism: Feast of All Saints, Feast of the Baptism of our Lord, the Great Vigil of Easter, and the feast of Pentecost.
